eBook Delivery from my Online Store

Yesterday, I participated in a multi-author promotion for free romances, and for the first time, I included download links for my online store. These promotions offer readers links to the various retail portals, but I added Hazel & Honeysuckle Press to my links – since my books are free there, too. (And some of the portals don’t offer my books free in some territories.)

I noticed last night that not everyone who “bought” a free book actually downloaded it. Let’s take a look at the delivery process at Hazel & Honeysuckle Press. I use BookFunnel for delivery.

When you buy a book in my store, regardless of the price, you need to check out. On that page, you provide an email address.

After your purchase is completed, you’ll get an email from the store. It comes from Hazel & Honeysuckle Press, and the subject line is: Your Hazel & Honeysuckle Press order has been received!

When you open the email, it looks like this:

Hazel & Honeysuckle order receipt

You will then get an email from BookFunnel. It comes from the address: help@bookfunnel.com

For this transaction, the BF email literally came 1 minute after the H&H one.

If you don’t see the BF email within five minutes, look in your spam folder. Once you’ve whitelisted their email (i.e. marked it as not-spam) all future emails from them will be delivered directly to your box.

The subject line on the BF email is the book title. For this sale, it said: Here’s “Just Trouble – Alternate Cover” by Deborah Cooke

When you open the email, it looks like this:

BookFunnel email, fulfilling ebook order

I’ve put some yellow blocks over personal details. Three of them are the download code for this book for this transaction. The second one is the email address I used for the purchase.

So you can click that top link to be taken to the download page, which looks like this.

BookFunnel download page

When you click GET MY BOOK, a pop-up window opens:

BookFunnel get my book pop-up window

Choose your reader, then follow the directions to get the ebook onto your reading device of choice. It’s very straightforward, though it’s not as instant as buying from the same portal all the time. BF doesn’t know what device you have, so it presents all the options.

The other nice thing about BF is that it creates a BF library for all of your books obtained through BF – provided you always use the same email address. This means your books are available all the time (forever!) for you to move one to another device or reader. You have a back-up this way.

Why am I telling you all of this? Because a high percentage of people who “buy” books through my online store, even free downloads, don’t download their books. (I can check on the back end of BookFunnel that books have been downloaded.) So, I suspect that a lot of people either ignore that delivery email from BookFunnel, or their mailbox filters are sending it to the spam folder.

You have fourteen days to download your ebook before the link expires. BookFunnel will send you a reminder email just before it does expire.

The best way to fix this is to “buy” a free book from my online store and hunt down that BookFunnel email. You’ll only have to do it the once.

The Christmas Conquest is Free!

The Christmas Conquest, book one of the Ladies’ Essential Guide to the Art of Seduction series of Regency romances, is free through the end of May. If you haven’t begun this series yet, now’s the perfect opportunity – book six, The Duke’s Desire, will be published in May.

I’ve changed the price in my online store as well as at the retailers. Although I added the epilogue, Upon a Midnight Clear, into the book file a year and a half ago, it appears that Amazon is still delivering the original file. (People are still downloading the epilogue.) So, if you’d like both book and epilogue in one file, get the copy for your Kindle from my online store.

Also, I’m learning how to do cool things in the store – for example, if you put The Christmas Conquest in your cart, then go to your cart, you’ll see an offer to buy the rest of the series to date at a discounted price. This bundle will be delivered as individual books, but they’ll all be delivered at the same time. I really like this and will set up more of these offers in future.

The store is set up in Canadian dollars. It also detects the location of your ISP and will invite you to change the displayed currency based on that location. Instead of me setting territorial prices, they’ll be converted in real time. I’m curious to see how well that works out or whether it will need a tweak.

The Christmas Conquest, book one of Claire Delacroix's Regency romance series the Ladies' Essential Guide to the Art of Seduction, is a free read for a limited time
The Christmas Conquest, a Regency romance novella by Claire Delacroix

Love was not part of the plan when this marriage was arranged…

Rhys Bettencourt, Baron Trevelaine, had every intention of avoiding his family’s curse. An arranged marriage to a plain bluestocking of fortune should have ensured the provision of at least one heir. After all, it was beloved Bettencourt wives who always died in childbirth. But practical Catherine undermined her husband’s scheme by stealing his heart. The only way for Rhys to protect her is to deny them both physical satisfaction, against his own desires.

Catherine Carruthers was content to wed for practical considerations and accept an arranged marriage to please her family. Two years later, though, Catherine is certain that her dashing aristocrat of a husband regrets his choice and that her marriage will never be more. She accepts an invitation to Rockmorton Manor for Christmas to decide whether to leave Rhys and return to her father’s house. Upon arrival, though, Catherine discovers pages of sensual advice left in her room—as well as Rhys determined to convince her to stay. Can their marriage be saved?

Armed with information and with little to lose, Catherine embarks upon a campaign of seduction that Rhys is powerless to resist—even as he fears for Catherine’s fate if he surrenders to temptation. Caught between love and the wretched curse, can Rhys find a way to keep his cherished wife safely by his side?

Upon a Midnight Clear, bonus epilogue to The Christmas Conquest, book one of The Ladies' Essential Guide to the Art of Seduction book one, by Claire Delacroix

Rhys and Catherine’s story has a bonus epilogue, which was originally available to my newsletter subscribers, called Upon a Midnight Clear. On September 28, 2023, the bonus epilogue was added into the ebook of The Christmas Conquest.

If you bought The Christmas Conquest after that date, you’ll get both.

If you bought The Christmas Conquest before that date, your portal of choice might offer an updated version, or you can download if from BookFunnel using the link below.

If you have the older version or the newsletter signup version, that link should still work.

A Surprise Addition to my Writing Queue

The Daughter's Disguise, book seven of the Ladies' Essential Guide to the Art of Seduction series of Regency romances by Claire Delacroix

This past week, I discovered a chapter on my hard drive, as I was digging into The Duke’s Desire. I was thinking that Esmeralda and the duke’s story would be the culmination of the series, then I read this bit from Theodora – who is Ophelia Pearl, the aspiring actress, and has a number of secrets.

Her story, The Daughter’s Disguise, will be #7 in the series, The Ladies’ Essential Guide to the Art of Seduction, and it’s a Christmas story.

I ordered a cover but won’t put this one up for pre-order until the book is done. I’m hoping to publish it in the fall.

2024 in Review

It’s time to have a look at the year that’s finishing up, then peek into the one that’s about to start.

new editions of the Blood Brothers series of medieval romances by Claire Delacroix, in hard cover and trade paperback, launched at Kickstarter

In 2024, I created new print editions of my Blood Brothers series of medieval romances, in both trade paperback and hard cover, with new illustrations of the couples. I launched those editions with a Kickstarter campaign.

I published three new books this year:

The Stolen Bride, book three of the Brides of Inverfyre series of medieval Scottish romances by Claire Delacroix
The Hellion’s Heart, book four of The Ladies’ Essential Guide to the Art of Seduction series of Regency romances by Claire Delacroix
The Bluestocking's Bargain, book five in The Ladies' Essential Guide to the Art of Seduction Regency romance series by Claire Delacroix

First, I (finally) wrote and published The Stolen Bride, Evangeline and Duncan’s story and book #3 of the Brides of Inverfyre series. That wrapped up my To Write list for Ravensmuir, Inverfyre and Kinfairlie. Will there be more stories set in that world? Probably, but I wanted to get to a good resting point and we’re there now.

I also wrote and published the next two stories in my Regency romance series, The Ladies’ Essential Guide to the Art of Seduction. Both The Hellion’s Heart and The Bluestocking’s Bargain are now available in ebook and print.

I published some translations this year, too.

A Aposta da Viúva is the Portuguese edition of The Widow's Wager, book three of the Regency romance series The Ladies' Essential Guide to the Art of Seduction by Claire Delacroix
O Coração de uma Diabrete is the Portuguese edition of The Hellion's Heart, a Regency romance by Claire Delacroix

The Widow’s Wager and The Hellion’s Heart are now available in Portuguese.

La canaglia is the Italian translation of The Rogue, book one of the Rogues of Ravensmuir series of medieval Scottish romances by Claire Delacroix
Ladro di cuore is the Italian edition of The Scoundrel, book two of the Rogues of Ravensmuir series of medieval romances by Claire Delacroix
Il cacciatore e l’ereditiera is the Italian edition of The Hunter & the Heiress, book two of the Blood Brothers series of medieval romances by Claire Delacroix
Al mio unico desiderio is the Italian edition of The Stolen Bride, book 3 of the Brides of Inverfyre series of medieval romances by Claire Delacroix
Un cuore dall' inferno is the Italian edition of The Hellion's Heart, a Regency romance by Claire Delacroix

The Rogue, The Scoundrel, The Hunter & the Heiress, The Stolen Bride and The Hellion’s Heart are available in Italian. I’ve just received the Italian translation for The Dragon & the Damsel and have that to format and publish, too.

The Wolf & the Witch Spanish edition
El corazón del granuja is the Spanish edition of The Hellion's Heart, a Regency romance by Claire Delacroix

The Wolf & the Witch and The Hellion’s Heart are both available in Spanish.

Die schon Braut, The Beauty Bride book one of the Jewels of Kinfairlie series of medieval romances by Claire Delacroix in its German edition
La leggenda della Rosa Rosso, The Rose Red Bride, book two of the Jewels of Kinfairlie series of medieval Scottish romances by Claire Delacroix in Italian
The Beauty Bride, book one of the Jewels of Kinfairlie series of medieval romances by Claire Delacroix, Portuguese edition

I’ve also had the rights to some translations revert to me, so have been making them available in new editions. The Beauty Bride in German was one of those books, and it’s now a free series starter at the portals. The Rose Red Bride in Italian is now available in my edition, as is The Beauty Bride in Portuguese. There are a lot more of these reversions coming in 2025 – once I have all four titles in the Jewels of Kinfairlie series available in any language, I’ll make The Beauty Bride a free read in that language.

Kickstarter campaign for the 25th anniversary of Love Potion #9 by Claire Delacroix writing as Claire Cross

I have a Kickstarter campaign planned for January to launch the new editions of my time travel romances. The featured title in the campaign is Love Potion #9, but all four of those books (originally published under the pseudonym Claire Cross) will be available in special paperback editions in that campaign.

Love Potion #9, a time travel romance by Claire Delacroix writing as Claire Cross, new cover
Once Upon a Kiss, a time travel romance by Claire Delacroix writing as Claire Cross, new cover
The Last Highlander, a time travel romance by Claire Delacroix writing as Claire Cross, 2022 edition

The new versions with these covers will be available from retailers in October. You can get your copy signed at Kickstarter, as well as early, with some fun swag. Follow the campaign here to be notified at launch.

The Duke's Desire, book six in The Ladies' Essential Guide to the Art of Seduction Regency romance series by Claire Delacroix

I also have a Kickstarter campaign in preview for hardcover editions of The Champions of St. Euphemia, which I hope to launch later in 2025. You can follow the campaign here to be notified at launch.

And now, let’s talk about new stories. First up in 2025 will be The Duke’s Desire, the sixth book in my Regency romance series. The pre-order is up at the portals now.

I’m so looking forward to 2025!
